If you would like YOUR event to be a qualifier for our National Championships, then please contact us HERE
or use the form below.
Shows holding Foreign Breed classes (non-indigenous to GB, Northern Ireland & Eire) are welcome to apply.
These classes need to be judged under Foreign Breed Show Rules - if your class is being run under "English" rules (individual show required), then any suitably qualified Panel judge can officiate. If they are being judged under "American" rules, then a judge from the Foreign Breed Judges list, or one holding an American "R" / "r" card must be appointed to officiate.

HOW THE APHS-FBS NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIPS WORK
To enter one of our National Finals you must have qualified and received a qualification card.
We are using a revamped system for 2026!

HOW TO QUALIFY FOR THE NATIONAL FINALS:
  • At the 2026 National Finals show – the top 3 in all "Open" classes  qualify.
  • At other APHS events - the top 3 in all Foreign Breed classes qualify.
  • To enter the In Hand Finals, you must have qualified in hand.
  • To enter the Ridden Finals, you must have qualified ridden.
  • You can qualify  at other shows around the country, from local level to county & National Breed Shows. The winner in affiliated shows’ Foreign Breed classes qualify. If they have already qualified, the card can be passed down the line, no lower than 6th place.
  • Qualification can also be earned at any National Breed Championship Show – all Overall (Supreme) In Hand and Ridden Champions & Reserves qualify. Simply send us a copy of the printed results and we will post your qualification card off to you.
  • You can qualify through dressage. Scoring 70% or over in unaffiliated dressage (including the dressage phase of Working Equitation), or 65% or more in BD/MCI Affiliated Dressage qualifies you for the Foreign Breed National Finals. All you need to do is take part in your dressage competition during the period of 1st Jan 2026 to 30th September 2026, gain the required scores and then submit your score sheet to us and we will post you your qualifying card.
ONE in hand qualification is needed per horse for the Foreign Breed National In Hand Finals & ONE ridden qualification is needed per horse for the Foreign Breed National Ridden Finals - it is the HORSE that qualifies, not the horse/exhibitor combination.

The reverse of the cards must be completed and returned to APHS (36 Philpot Square, Peterborough Road, London, SW6 3HX) . There are many classes at the show for non-qualified/non-members too - so all are welcome to join us in this end of year celebration of Foreign Breeds.

If you are a show secretary who hold foreign breed classes and you would like them to be qualifiers for our Foreign Breed National Finals,  please get in touch with us. To help with costs, we ask that Show Secretaries enclose an A5 SAE with their application form for return of our qualifying cards.
View our "other events" page to see a list of current qualifying shows.

WILD CARD option to qualify too.
This is an option for Judges to present in ANY class (does not have to be a Foreign Breeds class) to any pure or partbred Foreign Breed that they feel is a good representative of (that) breed. These can be in any open type competition, where ever the judge is officiating at.

If you are a judge who regularly comes across foreign breeds and would like some Wild Cards for 2026, please get in touch with us.

Please contact us for more information.
